Pupil Premium Policy Statement
The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is funding provided to schools, which is additional to main school funding. The Pupil Premium is designed to help each school boost the attainment of disadvantaged children and reduce the gap between the highest and lowest achievers. It is allocated according to the number of pupils on-roll who are currently eligible for Free School Meals or were eligible in any of the previous six years (Ever 6 FSM). In addition, an allocation is made for each pupil who has been ‘Looked After’ (in care) for 6 months or more. Finally, a smaller amount of the grant is allocated according to the number of children of Service Families (Ever 3 Service Child).
Free School Meals
You may qualify if you are a parent, guardian or carer and receive one of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.
Your child may also get free school meals if you get any of these benefits and your child is both:
- younger than the compulsory age for starting school
- in full-time education

Key Facts
The Pupil Premium is paid to local authorities by means of a specific grant based on each school’s January school census figures for pupils currently registered as eligible for FSM in Reception to Year 11 and those who were eligible in any of the previous six years. For looked after children the Pupil Premium was calculated using the Children looked after data returns (SSDA903).
It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. However, schools are to be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families. This information must be published on the school website. Please see below for information regarding how the Pupil Premium will be spent within the academic year, the impact of this funding, and the plans for future spending.
Within Overleigh St. Mary's CE Primary School we use a range of targeted interventions which are recognised by The Sutton Trust Toolkit to be effective in raising the progress and attainment of our Pupil Premium children.
